It has been 6 days since my due date, (Monday 13th February) and I think I’ve come to realise that I have very little patience. People tell you the old wives tales about ways you can naturally start labour and other mums have told me how one or more of these ways worked for them, but I must be an exception.
Every day this week I have eaten something spicy and I can’t even handle the mango and lime spice at Nandos yet all of a sudden on Valentines Day I found myself ordering hot just to encourage our little one. I’ve tried eating pineapple, having long, hot baths, sex…practically everything and nothing seems to work.
It’s a fact that not everyone has their baby on their due date, but there’s always that feeling of hope that your baby is going to arrive on the date given, not just because you want to hold the baby and see him/her for the first time, but you also really want to be able to see your feet again and get out of bed without having to be lifted out (at least that’s how I felt, a little bit).
After having 2 sweeps (for those who know, it’s something I never want to go through again, and for those who don’t know what a sweep is – you don’t want to), on Friday I thought ‘this is it’ when I started having a few contractions. How wrong was I. After spending nearly 3 hours in the hospital I was sent home at 3a.m. with my partner, mum and still no baby. I wasn’t in enough pain to be in labour, but I had started in early labour, so we headed home in hope that the little one would start making an appearance very soon. We were only disappointed when we woke on Saturday and my contractions had practically gone, so again I did everything the old wives tales say to do in hope that encouraged them.
So far, our baby is 6 days late and I’m hoping that by the end of this week he’ll be here, we hope.
